For Nonprofits

Free tech help for Central Valley nonprofits

I’m a software engineer in Oakdale, and I’m volunteering to help nonprofits in Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Merced counties with technology. It’s free. I want to give back, and I’m building a portfolio of real community projects. In person or remote, in English or Spanish.

Start here: a free Tech Stack Checkup

Many small nonprofits qualify for thousands of dollars a year in free software they’ve never claimed. I’ll check what you qualify for, set it up with you, and leave you a one-page plan. My part takes a day or two; approvals from Google or Microsoft can take a few weeks.

  1. Confirm your eligibility (IRS letter, Goodstack or TechSoup).
  2. Set up free Google Workspace and apply for Google Ad Grants (up to $10,000 a month in free search ads, if Google approves you).
  3. Check your Microsoft 365 licenses: many nonprofits lost their free Business Premium seats at renewal after July 1, 2025. Business Basic is still free and Premium is now discounted, so you may be overpaying or under-licensed.
  4. Turn on the basics that stop most break-ins, like two-step login for every account.
  5. Pick one nonprofit-priced AI tool (Claude or ChatGPT) and run a one-hour session with your team on your real work.

Other things I can take on

The checkup is always free. I’m also taking on a few bigger projects free this winter, in exchange for an honest testimonial.

Website

A new or refreshed site that works on phones, in English and Spanish, with online donations and volunteer sign-up.

Funder reports

Turn the spreadsheets you rebuild every quarter into a report that fills itself in.

Forms and busywork

Replace paper or PDF intake and sign-up forms with online forms that land in one place.

Client, donor and volunteer lists

One simple, shared database instead of scattered spreadsheets, with the right people able to see the right things.

AI, used safely

A one-page AI policy that keeps client information out of the wrong tools, plus setup of a discounted business plan.

A custom tool

If you need something that doesn’t exist yet, like the free help guides I built for Stanislaus families, I can build it.

How it works

  1. Email me or send a message through the contact form. Tell me what’s eating up your team’s time.
  2. We talk for 30 minutes, by phone, video or in person.
  3. I send a one-page plan: what I’ll do, by when, and what it would cost if you were paying.
  4. I build it and show your team how to use it. You own every account and login, not me.
  5. If you’re happy, I ask for a short testimonial and, if you know one, an introduction to another nonprofit.

Many nonprofits here serve families whose information is sensitive. I never put client data into consumer AI tools, and I only work in accounts you control.
